UCSD Critical Gender Studies

All Critical Gender Studies majors and minors are required to take the Critical Gender Studies introductory courses: Critical Gender Studies 2A, 2B, 100, and 101. Students who declare the major with junior or senior standing may, if they wish and with CGS permission, petition to substitute two comparable upper-division Critical Gender Studies or departmental courses for Critical Gender Studies 2A or 2B.

Students majoring in Critical Gender Studies focus their coursework on one of the five designated CGS Clusters: Culture and Representation; Sexualities; Work, Migration, and Globalization; Science, Technology, and Medicine; History, Society, and Inequalities. Each cluster requires ten upper division gender-based courses from those offered by CGS or by departments: five within the cluster, four from outside the cluster, and one Critical Gender Studies course.

A quarterly list noting Critical Gender Studies courses and related departmental approved and petitionable departmental courses for an upcoming quarter is available when the Schedule of Classes comes out and can be found on the CGS Web site and at the CGS Main Office, HSS 2073.
