Requirements

CGS Minor Requirements Effective Fall 2017

Critical gender studies minors are required to take seven courses, comprising four courses in the introductory sequence (2A, 2B, 100A, 100B), and three upper-division courses, two of which must be upper-division CGS courses, and the remaining elective may be either another upper-division CGS course or an upper-division applicable elective from the Social Sciences or Arts & Humanities.

  • CGS 2A - Intro to CGS: Key Terms & Concepts (Fall)
  • CGS 2B - Intro to CGS: Social Formations (Spring)
  • CGS 100A - Conceptualizing Gender: Theoretical Approaches (Fall)
  • CGS 100B - Conceptualizing Gender: Methods & Methodologies (Spring)
  • Three upper-division elective courses - at least two must be from CGS

Students who declare the Critical Gender Studies minor (or program of concentration) with junior or senior standing may petition to substitute an upper-division Critical Gender Studies course or an elective course of comparable content for CGS 2A or 2B. Critical Gender Studies permits one lower-division course and one upper-division course to be taken P/NP. A student may apply the equivalent of two UD courses to fulfill the requirements for a minor that have also been used to satisfy the requirements of a major.

Quarterly Course Newsletters

When the UCSD Schedule of Classes for an upcoming quarter goes online, the Critical Gender Studies Program makes available a list of that quarter’s proposed CGS courses. The quarterly list will also include applicable courses being offered in other departments. The Quarterly Course Newsletters for the current academic year can be found here.
