    Research Interests and Education 

    Dr. Daphne Taylor-Garcia (they/she) received their Ph.D. in Ethnic Studies from the University of California, Berkeley in 2008. They were the recipient of the President’s Postdoctoral Fellowship and then joined the Ethnic Studies Department faculty at UC San Diego in 2010. Most recently they were a research fellow at the UC Humanities Research Institute. Taylor-Garcia is one of the principal investigators and steering committee members of the Latinx Cluster Hire Initiative at UCSD and a faculty leadership council member of the new UCSD Labor Center. Their published work and teaching focus on decolonial philosophy and the embodied consciousness of race, class, gender, and sexuality in colonial contexts, as well as required courses on interdisciplinary methodologies. Taylor-Garcia has partnered with faculty across San Diego to form Xicana San Diego, a community-focused organization that highlights the praxis of Xicana/x intellectuals in the region.
